When Hidden Mantra asked me to do a cassette release with the label, my initial thought was to do two contrasting sides. Something I’ve thought of before but hard to do on a cd. My idea was to have one side minimal, and as a contrast, the other would be maximal. Whether I’ve really achieved this or not is a matter of opinion I guess. Is the maximal side just like the minimal with distortion pedals? I like to think not….
So, the minimal side is a single 21 minute piece which slowly grows and develops. The maximal side has three tracks – the final one a single take solo guitar piece, and the others more composed and densely layered (maximal?)… and yes, it has distorted guitars.
